Flyfishing

- preferably one-handed 9-10ft carbon rod, line 5-7, line 6 in normal conditions is optimal; line 7 fits better for strong winds.
- large arbor reel (Danielsson FW type) with 100-150m of 20lbs resistant backing
- Floating line (type WF) is fit for most conditions; pick number and type compatible with your rod. Note that a sinkline (Type T 200) can prove very useful to fishing deep pools
- One or two (in case you would lose one of them) sets of 50m thread bobbins (45/100, 40/100, 35/100, 30/100 in maxima, 25/100, 20/100 in fluorocarbon) in order to make your leaders, which will be 1,5 time as long as your rod.
- Specific flies for Greenland arctic chars are recommended (a set of 100-150 flies is necessary for the duration of your stay in Greenland) : - surface flies - set of streamers (or tube flies) - nymphs and small black flies when fish are right below the surface Most appropriates colors are : rose, orange, peach, white, black.
- Streamers’ size is from 8 to 2. As you will be using mostly floating lines, you should use a streamer with a cone head for its sinking quality as it enters the water. The cone can be golden, black or orange. The wooly buger streamer is a must-have. Using rabbit is recommended as it will give solidity to your artificial and it will help you catch many fish with the same artificial. Tube flies are also very efficient ; size (3-7cm long) and colors can easily change.
- Floating streamers are tied to hooks n°4 or n°2. Tails are made up of marabou or rabbit, body is made up of cactus chenille, and the back of floating streamers consists of 1 or 2 layers of foam. Don’t forget colored elastic legs to make your artificial even more attractive. Foam has to be wide (about 5mm) and thick (3-5mm) enough to get perfect floating even in the strongest currents. Then fishing is simple but exciting: once you’ve cast your fly, you need to make it « skate » on the surface by raising your rod or by bringing the line back to you on a very regular pace. Chars will follow the fly and strike : set your hook, but not right away, you absolutely need to wait for a while before giving your rod a quick jerk !
- Nymphs: set of articifials on hooks n°6 to 10, preferably with a tungsten bead and elastic legs.
- Dry flies: set of small black flies on hooks n° 18 to 14.

Casting & Spinning

- With casting and spinning, it is hard to say how many fish you will catch per day as there will be lots of them!
- Preferably a 2,40-2,80m longs carbon rod, about 5 to 20gr casting power. You should bring 2 rods of different size and power with you, so that you can fish under any conditions or replace a damaged rod.
- At least 2 spinniing reels with a capacity of 150-200m of nylon 25/100-30/100 or thread 12/100-15/100. In addition, reels will need to have a smooth brake.
- Any type of spoons. Quimperloises are efficient but MEPPS n°2,3 and 4 are very good stuff too. You should have spoons of different weights and colors (silver, gold, black, pink, red, orange, etc.). Rapala lures are also efficient under certain conditions. A set of 100 lures, mostly MEPPs spoons, will be enough for you to face any situation.
